“Having worked for more than 10 years with the local authority, I was ready for a change, something more of a challenge. My children had flown the nest and I found myself rattling about in a 3 bedroom house alone. Knowing that children could bring more life into this home I started to look at my options.

I researched multiple agencies and settled on FCA Scotland. The company offered much more support than other similar agencies, they were more or less available 24 hours a day. After my initial request for further information, I felt that things were managed in a very professional manner and an initial home visit to discuss things further was implemented quickly. The home visit was very informal and very informative for myself. After discussing things with my family, I started the process to foster. Every area that could be covered was, such as: personal preferences, age groups etc, all required for the necessary matching process were I to be successful.

Throughout my time with FCA Scotland I have received multiple training in various subjects that have all been relevant to my role. I have also being given the opportunity to access more courses to enhance my knowledge of the needs required by children placed in my care.

FCA has a variety of in-house staff who specialise in various forms that can be vital to assist us as foster carers to manage situations that arise from time to time. I have used all of the services available on numerous occasions, with professionals who are at the end of a phone to help and support us foster carers (even if it’s just to offload). There are many things available to us regular support groups, forums and get-togethers to help us swap experiences and feel part of a very special group, almost like an extended family. Various activities and get-togethers throughout the year keep foster carers and our children alike connected and we always have lots of fun.
