Support for children in foster care

Our fostering service is focused on the needs of the children we look after, so we’ve built up a strong framework of support for children in foster care.

A partnership, with the children right at the very centre.

Our support network for children and young people includes foster parents and our team of social workers and therapists. Beyond that however, there’s plenty more in place, and as an organisation that believes in involving people, we really do get children to share their ideas and feedback on what we’re doing – and how well!

Listening to children – the young people’s forum

To make sure we listen to children properly, we’ve created a young people’s forum where they get together with FCA Scotland’s leadership team to talk about what we’re doing, what we can do better, and what they’d like us to do more of. This is more than just listening – we also take action. We even invite young people to get involved in interviewing and training our foster carers, so they have a real and direct say in our work. Last year, eight of our foster children took part in ‘1000 voices’, an initiative run by the Scottish Care Review to gather young people’s views in order to shape future care planning in the country.

While we offer on-going support and guidance to every fostered child in foster homes, there are always times when something different or special is needed – including out of hours. Our team makes sure this support is available when it’s needed. We arrange fun events and activities children which include arts and craft days and a day out at Blair Drummond Safari Park and football fun days. At our recent football fun day, everyone who took part received a kit with their name on the back.
