July saw the first of our young people’s participation events being held in respect of The Promise.
We were delighted to see eight of our young people (aged 12- 18) from the West managing the ‘early rise’ during their summer holidays to make their way into the Cambuslang Office for 11.00am. We enjoyed some arts and crafts including a bit of origami and designed some lovely artwork and canvases for the office. We stopped for pizza and much requested cookies from Domino’s while we had some banter and chat about future events before finishing off with some xBox, fun games, planting our special Promise wildflower seeds and designing plant pots. We are now looking forward to seeing pictures of the flowers as they grow.
The time flew by and it was great to see our young people interacting with one another and enjoying the opportunity to have their voices heard. On collecting our young people, the foster carers were delighted to see the masterpieces that had been created with one foster carer commenting that she couldn’t quite believe we had managed to get them to engage and be creative.
The canvases have now been proudly displayed on the stairway as you enter the office and are just the start of our ‘Promise Wall’ in the office which is a work in progress at present. We are now looking forward to our next event for our young people in the East which will be of a similar format, where we hope to get some more lovely creations. We will then be looking at holding these groups on a regular basis going forward, with the young people leading on the activities they would like to do.
