Friday 9th September is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) day setting off a month of vital education and awareness work across Britain.
FCA Scotland are playing their part, launching our Promise to raise FASD awareness and promote assessment for our children. The Scotland therapy team have started today with a FASD talk for staff. Across FASD month, the therapy team will be providing FASD training and reading groups for foster carers.
We urgently need to put FASD on the map for our children. Recent research shows up to 75% children’s adoption medicals showed FASD. FASD causes complex physical, emotional and learning difficulties. It is rarely assessed for diagnosis, or often misdiagnosed.
‘The Hidden Disability’, Myths Behind Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder That Prevent Treatment and Diagnosis is an excellent documentary.
The FASD Hub has a wealth of information and an excellent helpline.
